Welcome to Kingfisher Class 2017-18
We are starting the year with a visit to China- The land of the Red Dragon. We are very excited about our upcoming school trip to the Royal Worcester Museum where we will be exploring the story of 'The Willow Pattern' and even creating our own designs, which will then be baked, ready for us to take them home at the end of our trip. Year 2 News
Year 2 are currently very busy rehearsing for their Christmas Nativity! We are always very excited at this time of year and we can't wait to perform our wonderful show to the rest of the school and our family and friends.
Our current topic is The Great Fire of London we are enjoying finding out information about what happened and creating some wonderful art and writing based on what we have found out.
2016-2017
We celebrated 100 years since Roald Dahl was born.
2015-2016
Summer Term- What are we learning about?
Year 2 are learning about different people that have inspired them. Them started with Nelson Mandela and learnt about what made him special, why he won the Nobel Peace Prize? and the journey to Equality in South Africa. We have also studied Pablo Picasso and some of his early Artworks including 'The Weeping Woman'. The children have used colour to depict different emotions and facial features in self-portraits. We have now moved on to learning about the Writer Roald Dahl and have just finished reading his wonderful book 'The Magic Finger' and creating some fantastic writing based on it. Our next Roald Dahl book is 'The Twits'.
Our topic for the Spring term is Wacky Weather and we will be learning about extreme weather conditions and how they affect people in different parts of the world. We will also link our topic to other areas of the curriculum - in Literacy we will be writing weather reports and create our own weather shape poems. In Music we will be creating our own weather music and in our PE lessons we will be creating a weather dance to accompany our musical composition! In Art, we will be creating our own weather paintings and in Design & Technology we will be creating our own weather gauges to help us record the weather in our local environment. We will then use our data handling skills in Maths to input this data into a graph.
The topic map below shows how each area of the curriculum links to our topic in more detail:
