December 2016

Friday 16th December 2016

There has been a hive of activity on the site in Mill Lane this week and I am really looking forward to seeing the progress. The children stopped to look at the diggers on their way back from Church this morning smiley

We received this update from Project Manager Justin yesterday.

"We landed on site this Monday 12th December with our temporary site accommodation which we just about craned into position on a very wet day. Our first priority whenever we start a new project is ensure we have the facilities to knock up a cup of builders tea.

Our groundworks contractor has made a great start stripping topsoil from the carpark and building footprint and forming a bund ready for it to be removed from site. As you can see from the photographs it is extremely soft underfoot and I am looking forward to bringing in the crushed stone so we are not walking about in sludge all day.
Next week we will start to mark out the position and levels of the building and external works as well as form the new entrance into site. Our groundworkers will start to reduce the level of subsoils in readiness to lay crushed stone ready for the construction traffic to run on and assist in keeping the highways clean.
We have a lot to do to be ready for the erection of the steel frame structure in February next year."

This week I attended a meeting about our new school and met some lovely people who are responsible for the building  project. The land has all be purchased and the preparations are well underway. From Monday, the building contractors will be on site to begin the groundworks for the new building. We also talked about different ways in which we could involve all of the children in educational learning  opportunities during the building project and are looking at developing really exciting activities with the architects and builders. We will keep the website updated with photos as the project progresses and we will also keep you informed via our newsletters. Watch this space!  Miss Bentham

Yesterday we received the much awaited news that the purchase of the land in Mill Lane has finally been completed. This means that the contract with Kiers can be signed and the building of our new school will begin.

Whilst this is a little later than we initially hoped, it is an important step. Details about the building programme and activity will be known shortly and we will of course update you as and when we are able.

It is a very exciting time for us as a school and we look forward very much to involving the children in the process as we now move to the next stage.

Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time.
